Standard v Charleroi: the first Rouches-Zebras meeting of the season
After three weeks without league football, matchday 8 of the Jupiler Pro League brings the most eagerly awaited Walloon fixture. Standard v Charleroi kicks off on Sunday 11 October at 13:30 at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne, and for their first meeting of the season, the Rouches and the Zebras face each other in an empty Sclessin: the Walloon derby will be played behind closed doors.
A disciplinary ruling, a gap in the table, the record of recent meetings and an absence for Charleroi: here's what you need to know before the match, one of the standout fixtures of the round for anyone betting on the Jupiler Pro League.
Standard v Charleroi behind closed doors: the legacy of May
The closed-doors order stems from the previous Standard v Charleroi, played at Sclessin on 23 May on the final day of the Europe Play-offs. Before kick-off, Standard led those play-offs by two points from Genk. Charleroi's 2-0 win, combined with victory for the Limburg side, cost Standard first place.
The end of the match was marred by pyrotechnics, missiles being thrown and a pitch invasion. On appeal in mid-August, the Belgian FA's Disciplinary Council confirmed three home matches without spectators for Standard, only one of which takes effect immediately: this Sunday's.
The other two are suspended, with a probation period running until 13 August 2027, and the club was fined €10,000. Charleroi received the same fine and one home match behind closed doors, with three more suspended. The referee is Simon Bourdeaud'hui.
The table before the Walloon derby
In the table as of 7 October 2026, after seven rounds, the two clubs are some way apart. Charleroi are fourth on 18 points: six wins and a single defeat. Standard are seventh on 11 points, with three wins, two draws and two defeats, 13 goals scored and 12 conceded.
The seven-point gap gives the match a different meaning for each side. A Charleroi win would keep the Zebras in touch with the top three, Union and Gent (19 points) and Club Brugge (18), while a Rouches victory would cut the gap to four points.

Two wins apiece last season
The four meetings between the clubs in 2025-26 ended in a perfectly balanced record. Standard won 3-1 at Sclessin on 31 October, before Charleroi won 2-0 at the Stade du Pays de Charleroi on 18 January.
In the play-offs, the Rouches won 2-1 at Charleroi on 18 April thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Tobias Mohr, before Charleroi closed the season with their 2-0 win in May. The last two meetings therefore went the way of the away side. Those games were played in the Europe Play-offs, while the title was being decided between Club Brugge and Union, as our piece on last season's title race recounted.
On the Charleroi side, head coach Mario Kohnen has just turned 40. He will, however, be without Antoine Bernier, who has an ankle injury. The winger scored in three of last season's four derbies, including May's 2-0 at Sclessin, and had already missed the three matches before the international break.
Betting on the Walloon derby
A single on the result remains the most direct way to follow the derby: one selection, one risk to assess. For this match, Golden Vegas Sport offers markets including match result, both teams to score and double chance, as well as the BetBuilder. The game can also go into an accumulator of three to eight legs with other matchday 8 fixtures: in an accumulator boosted by Opti Odds, every selection with odds of at least 1.60 has its odds raised.
Closed doors add one more unknown to this derby. Past records are no guide to the result, and a single mistake is enough to sink an accumulator: decide on your stake before you choose your matches.
