World Cup 2026: the Red Devils want to delight Sclessin against Liechtenstein

Sclessin will be in full celebration mode. And the people of Liège should take advantage of it. For the first time in decades, their stadium hosts the Red Devils. The Federation decided to relocate the match against Liechtenstein to the Cité Ardente—an event Golden Vegas Sport did not want to miss.

Enough to turn the whole city of Liège into a festive arena. We’ll be a bit cheeky in pointing out that fans will finally get to enjoy some quality football, given that—as you may have seen on our blog—Standard Liège has been blowing hot and cold since the beginning of the season.

This time, no club rivalries. All Belgians will stand behind their national team to celebrate qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Our Red Devils will be heading to the United States, Mexico and Canada.

A goal fest expected

What better way to celebrate qualification for the next World Cup than facing a small nation in front of your own fans? Barring any surprises, a flood of goals should rain down on Liège, even with Lukaku and De Bruyne absent.

In the first leg, in the principality, the Red Devils swept aside their opponents with a tennis-like scoreline (0-6). Raskin scored his first goal for the national team.

And the former Standard player, now at Glasgow Rangers, is thrilled to return to his old ground. “I would have preferred to score my first goal for the national team here at Sclessin,” he smiled in the mixed zone. Will he score his second goal for Belgium in his old backyard?

Openda and Doku in action during Belgium vs Liechtenstein, a 2026 qualifier likely to produce a flood of goals.

Liechtenstein with nothing to play for

With 0 points in 6 matches, Liechtenstein stopped dreaming about reaching the next World Cup a long time ago. Betting on a Belgian win won’t bring you much, whether you do it on our online platform or in our physical betting shops.

Live betting on the number of goals scored by our national team, however, could prove much smarter. The gap in quality, the technical superiority and the squad depth are all clearly in Belgium’s favour.

If Openda, Doku or Trossard find the net early, the evening could quickly turn into a one-sided showcase. Just like in Wales, even though De Bruyne’s brace certainly helped.

Suspense elsewhere

If you’re looking for suspense, you’re better off switching to other matches. France face a notoriously tricky and exotic trip to Azerbaijan, even if Didier Deschamps’ players should get the job done.

England will travel to Albania after hosting Serbia. As for Germany, they will welcome Slovakia. But the nation under the most pressure is undoubtedly Italy. The Squadra Azzurra haven’t played in a World Cup since 2014.

And they will have to go through the play-offs after being overtaken by Norway, even though Retegui’s men will face the Scandinavians in a match with absolutely no suspense.
