US Open: who will succeed Sinner and Sabalenka?
Here we are already! The tennis season is coming to an end. Through Golden Vegas Sport, we have traveled from Australia to New York via Paris and London, across the different Grand Slams. For this final major event of the season, the spotlight will be on the courts of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
No more Roland-Garros clay or Wimbledon grass — the hard courts are back to close the 2025 campaign. Even though the official tournament starts this Sunday, the buzz has already taken over the Big Apple.
The qualifiers are in full swing, and a revamped mixed tournament over three days has already crowned its winners in a brand-new format. Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori lifted the trophy against Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud (6-3, 5-7, 10-6).
A controversial mixed doubles
This success sparked the first controversy, not because of the winners but about the necessity of organizing what looks more like an exhibition just days before players enter their main draws.
“If I weren’t playing mixed doubles, I’d be training for the men’s singles starting Sunday. I prefer playing on a big court in front of a crowd, as the new mixed doubles format allows. It would be great if all the Grand Slams adopted this format,” said Jack Draper, world No. 5.
“Overall, tennis hasn’t changed its rules much in many years. So why not try something new?” added Casper Ruud, while Vavassori was delighted: “The best thing we take away from these two days is that more people discovered mixed doubles.”
Sinner chasing the double?
From August 25 to September 7, New York will vibrate to the rhythm of world tennis. With one big question: can Sinner achieve two doubles? The Italian could win the US Open for the second consecutive year and string together two Grand Slams, having already claimed Wimbledon two months ago.
A convincing winner in 2024, Sinner will face his eternal rival Carlos Alcaraz, who triumphed at Roland-Garros, as well as the unrelenting ambition of Daniil Medvedev, and Alexander Zverev, still chasing his first major title. The biggest question mark remains Novak Djokovic, for whom each appearance could be the final chapter of an extraordinary story.
But beyond the favorites, a whole generation of young talents is eager to shake up the hierarchy. Holger Rune, Ben Shelton, Arthur Fils, and Lorenzo Musetti could well spring a surprise in a tournament renowned for its twists and turns.
So who will lift the trophy in 15 days? Follow it all on GoldenVegas Sport!

Sabalenka, candidate for re-election
New York means night sessions under the floodlights of the Arthur Ashe Stadium, a crowd as expressive as ever, and high-intensity matches on a fast surface. Not to mention the technological innovations, starting with automated line-calling.
In short, all the conditions are in place for an incredible spectacle, both for the men and the women, where Aryna Sabalenka is the main favorite to try and defend her title.
But beware of surprises! Considered the main dress rehearsal before the US Open, the WTA tournament in Montreal crowned Victoria Mboko. At 18, the Canadian has made a name for herself and will look to continue her momentum across the border in the United States.
Coco Gauff will carry the hopes of the American crowd, but the local star is not at her best. She has just changed coach this week, even though she won Roland Garros last July. So, who will win this final stop of a unique tour?
