Kompany champion? Lukaku top scorer? Serie A and Bundesliga are finally back
We can’t blame them, as the Club World Cup extended the summer, but by resuming on the weekend of August 22, the Bundesliga and Serie A stretched the holiday feeling. German and Italian fans can finally breathe again.
Their national leagues are finally back, while in Belgium, for example, the Jupiler Pro League is already at its fifth matchday — one-sixth of the regular season already played since the end of July.
One week after Ligue 1, the Premier League and La Liga, here come the Bundesliga and Serie A. Who will succeed Bayern Munich under our Vincent Kompany and Napoli with Romelu Lukaku? Will the Red Devils be crowned again?
Here’s everything you need to know to bet on Belgium’s leading online betting site, Golden Vegas Sport.
Will Vincent Kompany win the title again?
A Belgian coach crowned in a major league doesn’t happen often. Raymond Goethals did it with Marseille, but since then, his successor was long awaited. And who better than our former Red Devil Vincent Kompany to write the next chapter in football history?
Last year, in his first season in Germany as head coach, the former Anderlecht captain guided Bayern Munich to their 34th national title. And he started this season in the same way, winning the Supercup against Stuttgart last weekend (1-2).
Despite this success, Kompany still faced criticism from club legend and Ballon d’Or winner Lothar Matthäus. “I find it totally incomprehensible that Kompany chose Guerreiro to replace Gnabry in the 80th minute against Stuttgart. Guerreiro is a good player, but I’m sure the management would have preferred to see a young talent get minutes. They need confidence, and with such choices, Kompany takes it away from them.”
If he keeps winning, even with more experienced players on the pitch, no one will blame him. But Bayer Leverkusen, Dortmund and Leipzig are teams capable of pulling off a surprise across 34 matchdays. So, who will win the Bundesliga?

Juventus wants to rise again
In Italy, Napoli claimed their fourth Scudetto. The city went absolutely wild. But can the Neapolitans defend their crown? Nothing is certain. Without a title for five years, Juventus want to put an end to this record drought.
But AC Milan with a Belgian touch also want to make their mark. The Rossoneri spent €40 million to sign Swiss talent Ardon Jashari from Club Brugge. And Belgian international Koni De Winter also joined the San Siro side.
Behind them, Inter Milan want revenge after losing everything in last year’s final sprint. They were well placed to be champions ahead of Napoli but collapsed, just like in the Champions League where they lost the final to PSG. So, who will win Serie A?

Lukaku top scorer? The big odds
To be honest, a week ago you wouldn’t have taken much risk betting on Romelu Lukaku as top scorer of the Italian league. But since then, everything has changed. Our Red Devil has suffered the most serious injury of his career: a muscle tear in his left thigh.
The striker will be out for several months. “He underwent instrumental tests at Pineta Grande hospital, which revealed a high-grade tear of the rectus femoris muscle in the left thigh. The player has already started rehabilitation and will also undergo a surgical consultation,” his club confirmed.
“Big Rom” is expected to miss about a quarter of the competition. But with his finishing instinct, there’s little doubt he could catch up with Lautaro Martinez, Moise Kean, Jonathan David or Marcus Thuram. Would you dare to take the 15/1 odds and bet on Lukaku as top scorer of the league?
