The return of Mourinho, PSG vs Barcelona and Union against a Premier League side: focus on the second matchday of the Champions League

Golden Vegas Sport goes into Champions League mode! Fifteen days after the start of the competition, the most prestigious of all European tournaments is back on centre stage, to the delight of bettors.

The opening round gave us incredible surprises such as Qarabag’s victory in Lisbon (2-3), the spectacular draw between Juventus and Borussia Dortmund (4-4), and Club Brugge’s crushing win over Monaco.

This week promises just as much drama. And your favourite bet online Belgium site breaks down three fixtures to help you place the smartest wagers before kick-off or live during the games.

Mourinho returns to Chelsea

It’s the butterfly effect, as French singer Benabar could have put it. After letting slip a two-goal lead and losing by three, the Lisboetas created an earthquake. Their coach Bruno Lage was sacked.

And the Benfica board turned to José Mourinho, who himself had just been dismissed by Fenerbahce. The irony? The Special One had been handed his dismissal after being eliminated with the Turkish side by… Benfica in the Champions League play-offs.

One of the most decorated coaches in football history is therefore returning to the Champions League through the back door. And fate has a sense of humour: his debut will be at Stamford Bridge. At Chelsea, the Portuguese coach enjoyed two spells, winning three Premier League titles. Will he get his revenge on his former club and lead Lisbon to victory against the Blues?

Union wants to do it again

This might be the fixture most followed by bettors on our website or in our venues. You could even call it patriotic pride. By surprisingly winning so easily at PSV Eindhoven (1-3), Union made a big statement.

The Belgian champions dominated the Eredivisie champions’ pitch, with a stratospheric El-Hadj. This time, the challenge gets a bit tougher. The Brussels side face Newcastle at Lotto Park in Anderlecht, since their home ground Joseph Marien Stadium is not approved.

The English side lost their Champions League opener at home against Barcelona (1-2). In the Premier League, they remain on a draw at Bournemouth and a defeat to Arsenal. Meanwhile, Union Saint-Gilloise is unstoppable in the Jupiler Pro League. Last weekend, they defeated Westerlo once again (2-0).

Quite simply, they already hold a six-point lead in the table over Club Brugge, their closest rival. Will they pull off a perfect 6/6 on the European stage? Find out by betting responsibly.

Barcelona – PSG, the Ballon d’Or revenge

Through our blog, you followed PSG’s conquest of their first Champions League last season. This year, the Parisians look just as impressive. Atalanta learned it the hard way at the Parc des Princes (4-0).

But Barça also has something to say. Knocked out in the semi-finals by Inter despite having everything under control until the last minute, the Catalans want redemption. Matchday two already brings us the blockbuster of the group stage: Barcelona vs PSG, where the Spaniards are considered favourites according to the bookmakers.

The French side has very attractive odds (3.55). It will also be a kind of Ballon d’Or revenge. Ousmane Dembélé lifted football’s most prestigious individual trophy just ahead of Lamine Yamal. While the 2018 World Cup winner will be injured, Yamal will want to prove to millions of viewers that the jury got it wrong. So who will win this clash?
