Europa League returns on GoldenVegas Sport: spotlight on Matchday 1

Since last summer, you’ve been following it on our blog. The last two months have been intense. All major competitions have already resumed. All but one: the Europa League. The wait is over. The second most prestigious European competition kicks off this Wednesday.

Golden Vegas Sport, your favourite online betting site in Belgium, couldn’t miss this. From now on, your long Thursday winter nights will be brightened by the C3. Admittedly, there will be only one representative from our Jupiler Pro League: Racing Genk.

Still, other major clubs will take the stage. Among them, Premier League sides like Nottingham and Aston Villa. Lyon and Nice will fiercely defend Ligue 1’s colours. On our platform, we’re already excited by the upcoming programme. So much so that we’re offering you a 25% BetXtra on every matchday when you bet live.

Last year, Tottenham and Manchester United clashed in Bilbao to decide who would lift this prestigious trophy. The London side eventually triumphed. Who will succeed them this year? Aston Villa, AS Roma, Porto? Or maybe a surprise team will emerge and help you land the jackpot.

Genk must save their coach’s job

One week after the incredible debut of Club Bruges and Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League group stage, it’s Genk’s turn to defend the Belgian coefficient on the European stage with the Europa League.

But the Limburg side don’t arrive with much confidence. It’s crisis time in Limburg. On Super Sunday, Fink’s men lost in the final minute against Union.

As a result, Genk find themselves third from bottom in the standings. Only Leuven and Dender are behind them in our Jupiler Pro League. That doesn’t sit well with the board, who have set an ultimatum.

Fink will have to win at Glasgow Rangers and then against Sint-Truiden on Sunday in the Limburg derby, or risk being sacked. The task looks far from easy at Ibrox Park, one of the most intimidating stadiums in Scotland.

Will Genk manage to get the win? During Thursday’s match, stay sharp and bet live to take advantage of boosted odds. Dramatic turnarounds could happen in the UK.

Will Malick Fofana propel Lyon forward?

Among the other fixtures on Matchday 1, we’ll be keeping an eye on Betis Sevilla - Nottingham, Stuttgart - Celta Vigo, Aston Villa - Bologna, and Salzburg - Porto. A packed programme full of great matches.

But most of the focus will be on Utrecht. The Dutch side face Olympique Lyonnais and their Belgian winger Malick Fofana. The lively Red Devil has confirmed the promise he showed last season in France. He continues to be one of Ligue 1’s revelations.

Surprising joint leaders, Lyon are the big positive story at the start of this season. With four wins and one defeat, they head into the Europa League with the same confidence as last year, when they reached the quarter-finals before losing to Manchester United.

Utrecht, on the other hand, are stuck in 14th place in the Eredivisie. They even lost at home to Cambuur this Monday. Lyon’s odds of 2 look like a value pick to grab. If you prefer betting in person, check out the list of our betting shops in Belgium.
