2026 FIFA World Cup Final: who will win it all, Spain or Argentina?
Since 11 June, the whole world has been glued to the 103 matches of the 2026 World Cup. This Sunday, just one final fixture remains to bring the tournament to a fitting close.
Everyone would have loved to see Belgium contest the first final in their history this weekend. Sadly, our Red Devils were knocked out by Spain, having set the whole country dreaming along the way — not least with that victory over Senegal.
Still, Lukaku and his teammates can take some comfort from having fallen to a finalist. On the other side of the draw, it is Argentina who will face La Roja. GoldenVegas Sport, the online sports betting site, tells you everything you need to know about a match set to be watched by over a billion people worldwide.
Argentina: on course for back-to-back world titles?
The bookmakers don't have them as favourites. Not that Lionel Messi and his side could care less. Since the start of the tournament, the reigning world champions have made the difference late in matches, even after being given a scare or two.
The result? The Albiceleste are just 90 minutes away from winning a second consecutive World Cup — a feat only Italy (1934 and 1938) and Brazil (1958 and 1962) have ever managed.
To get there, the South Americans will need to take a leaf out of Belgium's book. Charles De Ketelaere remains the only player to have beaten Unai Simón in this entire competition.
So, can the Argentinians break down Spain's iron defence and hand Lionel Messi the perfect farewell in his final World Cup?
Spain out to lift a second World Cup
Spain, in any case, go in as favourites — though the odds could well swing during the match with live betting. Since winning Euro 2024, nothing seems capable of stopping Luis de la Fuente's men.
The back line is all but impenetrable, the midfield is orchestrated by Rodri, the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, and while Lamine Yamal took his time to get going in this tournament, he finally proved decisive against France in the semi-final.
An entire nation is waiting for a second star, after the first was earned in 2010. After South Africa, will America and New York deliver the Holy Grail for Spain? We'll have the answer this Sunday at around 9pm CET.
